Iditarod Sled Dog Race

Sam and Gretchen's Alaskan/Siberian Huskey, Jasper, Oct 2006. Both of his parents are Iditarod sled dogs

Gretchen called this week to share some exciting news. The Iditarod decided to pay tribute to the local Fort Richardson soldiers this coming Saturday, March 3rd. They contacted the Commanders wife and said they wanted 3 Army wives to cut the ribbon at the ceremonial start in Anchorage. Well, Gretchen was attending a wives tea when the Commander's wife shared the news. She put every ones name in a hat and Gretchen was one of the two names drawn. The Anchorage Daily News says the start will be on television but I am guessing we will have to settle for an Internet streaming video webcast.

Saturday she is going to be a celebrity, and Sunday she is racing in a 40k (24+ mile) cross country ski race with friends.
