Meet The Parents

More Alaskan Adventures

Here is Jasper, a 1.5 year old Alaskan Husky pulling a sled in the parking lot at Byers Lake, Denali State Park, AK. Good times...

Jack and Jasper take Sam and Gretchen on many Alaskan adventures so they decided to start their own blog.

Minus 10 Camping, Alaska Style!!

Gretchen and I just got back from a great night out in the Chugach mountains. We cross country skied in about 5 miles, climbing nearly 2000ft to the base of Ptmargin, North Suicide and South Suicide Peaks, at the base of a frozen Rabbit Lake. Day time temps were around Zero, the night time low dropped near -10 before my Suunto Watch screen froze and was unreadable. The morning brought a gorgeous sunrise and quick ski back out to the cars. Jasper and Jack came along, both having a great time, and providing some extra warmth in the tent. Enjoy the photos.
Peace,
Samuel

The sun never gets high enough in the sky to reach the valley floor.
Below zero, Sam's frozen hair.

Iraqi Extremes

Here is another side of Iraq you may not know about. Below freezing and mud, not 140 deg. and dust. Jay

All,
Today (13 Jan) I participated in my 3rd air assault, the first from CH-47 Chinooks. After the bad guys of course (don't really need all the details, just know that they were bad), our largest to date. The interesting part was trying to get to the objective. The landing zone was about 1500 meters away from the village, below freezing and had just rained all day 24 hours prior. Needless to say, we got a little muddy (therefore the picture). We're talking knee-deep mud in most places and wading through canals just to get good footing. All went well.
Just thought I'd share some more pictures of my time here.
Later,
Matt

Sam says,
"Nice. I remember those days, not so fondly, when I rucked 40 lbs. of C4 after an infil in boats up the Euphrates river, after a rain storm. I think that was the first time I ever got shot at too! Glad to see Matt's getting his boots dirty with the grunts!"

A Blue Eyed Blond With Freckles

At six months old, "Jack" is about the same size as his big brother "Jasper" who is 18 months old. He is the latest AK Chamberlain family addition.
